John Elefante (ex-Kansas, Mastedon)- Discography (1995-2013)

Genre: Rock, Christian Rock, Melodic Rock, AOR | Label: Word Records/Pamplin Music/Kingheir Music

Early Years

John Elefante born March 18, 1958 in Levittown, New York, and his family soon moved to Long Beach, California. Growing up, he sang and performed drums for his family band, The Brotherhood. As an artist, his credits include writing and singing lead vocals on three multi-platinum albums; as producer, his albums have earned numerous Dove Awards, 4 Grammy Awards (most recently in 2000) and 10 Grammy nominations. He has maintained a close working relationship with his brother, Dino, throughout his career.

At the dawn of 2009, Elefante has produced and/or performed on more than 100 major label albums. Through his work, he helped transform Christian hard rock from a handful of bands to a mainstream musical genre. The brotherhood had endured, and the two brothers had together achieved considerable artistic and commercial success. Elefante realized, though, that he was still a songwriter at heart. And that the ultimate measure of his career was sharing the joy of his faith; one that moved, sustained, and inspired him.
John has finished a new album, in a contemporary style that also hearkens back to the best of Mastedon, his KANSAS work, and solo albums. Get it here!

After putting his solo career on hold to serve as producer to artists including Greg Long and Petra, singer and songwriter John Elefante recorded his debut project Windows of Heaven in 1995. A combination of CCM, pop, and rock, the album showcases the vocal intensity and passion of Elefante. Songs include "Hello My Good Friend," "This Is What Love Is," "No One's Ever Died for Me Before," and "That's Why God Made the Moon." ~ Review by Ashleigh Kittle

John Elefante - Corridors (1997)
MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 134.55 MB | SCANS | Time: 48:14
Label: Pamplin Music | Cat.#: PMCD9701

"Corridors", Elefante's 1997 album, was his second solo effort but is by no means sophmoric. John Elefante by that time had enjoyed a long and acclaimed career as a producer, particularly in the Christian market where he had worked with artists such as Petra. So of course the production on this album is top-notch. That pretty much applies to anything Elefante produces, when it comes to audio production, up there with Tom Scholz and Aldo Nova.

But the real gem of this album is "Not Just Any Other Day". The song tells about crucifixion of Christ, making the point that people around Jerusalem in 33 AD were going about their business without realizing that the most important event in the history of mankind was taking place. How many times do we miss the most important things while going about our daily business? ~ Review by Mike Goble

John Elefante - Defying Gravity (1999)
MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 140.82 MB | SCANS | Time: 48:30
Label: Pamplin Music | Cat.#: PMCD9952

Former Kansas band member John Elefante released Defying Gravity in 1999. The album, being a blend of CCM, adult contemporary, and alternative Christian, offers an eclectic assortment of musical stylings. Included in this are "Pass the Flame," featuring a soft folk-rock sound with pop-country influences, "Home With a View," which is CCM set at a moderate pace with a catchy melody, and the rock-oriented "Don't Leave the Band." Elefante served as a co-writer on all ten of the project's tracks. Lyrically, the songs range from the wonder of God's love in "The Way That You Love Me" to childlike faith in "If You Just Believe." ~ Review by Ashleigh Kittle

John Elefante - On My Way To The Sun (2013)
MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 145.01 MB | SCANS | Time: 56:14
Label: Kingheir Music | Cat.#: 9947539057

It's quite possible that John Elefante is one of CCM's most decorated and credited musicians, yet almost completely unknown by most. The former lead singer of Kansas wrote the group's third highest overall charting single -- which is pretty impressive when you consider that the first two are "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry On My Wayward Son" -- and their two highest charting singles of all time on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart. Elefante has two solo contemporary Christian albums, several albums with his brother, Dino, under the name Mastedon, as well as numerous other writing and musical credits to his name as a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. Elefante's newest solo effort, On My Way to the Sun, harkens back to his days in Kansas. This foray into classic and progressive rock may not be for some younger ears, but it sounds just right for fans of the 70's.... ~ Review by Michael Weaver Jesusfreakhideout.com
