'Totally unexpected (I admit, I wasn’t paying my fullest attention), I have to review the new CD ‘Mammon’s War’ of Count Raven, one of the most influential bands in the doom scene for the past twenty years. I hope they stay together longer than the previous time, when the spasm lasted like two years with gigs at Wacken and a tour after that, but no release.
Fodde, who is on this record, surpassing his ever-being-compared-to-Ozzy original (being Ozzy himself), threw out Wilbur and Rentfeldt and sat on these new songs for some years to let them ripe like wine and become what they are : great metal songs in true Count Raven tradition! So, from the original line-up, only Fodde remains. But to be honest that is all you need! His typical singing lines are unexpectedly original and the riffing suits Count Raven as a glove. Opener ‘The Poltergeist’ and ‘Nashira’ could feature with ease on ‘Destruction Of The Void’. Recognizable yet confronting and masterly done songs that are supported by the whaling voice of Fodde, just grand! Let’s hope this influential band that in one way or the other always had troubles with labels, companies, business affairs, live performances and such, will have a great future! They deserve it with a comeback CD as fierce as ‘Mammon’s War’.'
